Please note that in order to reduce the total waiting time, it is necessary to book an appointment when submitting documents for 10 people or more.

Schengen Visa


Schengen visa can be applied for for stays of up to 90 days within one half year (period of 180 days).

Invitations must be submitted in the original and only when applying for a visa. Invitations that are sent directly to the Embassy without a special request cannot be attached to a previously submitted application.



This type of visa can be requested for one of the following purposes:

* Close relatives are: spouses (including same-sex partnerships), children (including adoptive), parents (including adoptive and guardians), grandmothers / grandfathers, grandchildren

* Family member means:
a) spouse;
b) a partner with whom a citizen of the Union entered a registered partnership under the laws of a Member State
c) direct descendants who are under the age of 21, or are dependent, and similar descendants of a spouse or partner
d) dependents in a direct ascending line and similar relatives of a spouse or partner

A transit visa for citizens of the Russian Federation is necessary if you do not have a valid Schengen visa, but you are planning a trip through the countries of the Schengen zone.

Visa for citizens of the Russian Federation is not required if you do not leave the transit zone at the airport in Germany, and the boarding on the next flight takes place without passing the border control.
Detailed information about the rules of transfer you need to check with the airline carrier.
Please note that only the following airports have transit zones:

Frankfurt am Main
Hamburg (temporary from 4.30 am to 11.30 pm)
Düsseldorf (temporary from 6.00 am to 9.00 pm) and prior registration of the carriage company with the Federal Police
Köln-Bonn (temporary from 4.30 am to 11.00 pm)
Berlin-Tegel (temporally limited from 6.00 am to 11.00 pm)

The competent authority for issuing a transit visa is the Schengen country, which border will be crossed first.

National Visa


National visa can be requested for a single stay over 90 days.

All original documents for submission must be submitted with 2 copies. Please note that in order to apply for a national visa, the personal presence of applicants is required, since on the day of submission of documents, the fingerprinting procedure takes place.

Please note that the German Visa Application Center in Moscow is authorized to accept applications for national visas of certain categories only. Please make sure that the purpose of your stay in Germany is one of the following.




Visa for students with unconditional admission * to study at a higher education institution, at a pre-university training college (Studienkolleg) or in a language course as part of pre-university training (PDF)

* The admission is considered unconditional if:

  • no conditions for admission are specified (for example, does not contain an invitation to entrance exams);
  • the applicant provides a certificate of admission (Immatrikulationsbescheinigung);
  • all of the listed conditions were clearly met at the time of submission of documents;
  • knowledge of the language has not yet been confirmed, but registration for language courses is provided as part of pre-university training.



Visa for taking up an internship as part of an international exchange program (§ 15 Nr. 4 BeschV) or while studying at a university after the 4th semester (§15 Nr. 6 BeschV) (PDF)

This visa category can be applied for in order to complete an internship for up to one year:

  • within the framework of an international exchange program for students or graduates of higher education institutions in agreement with the Federal Employment Agency (ZAV) §15 Nr. 4 BeschV
  • during study in higher education, which is carried out after the fourth semester in the subject form in agreement with the Federal Employment Agency (ZAV) §15 Nr. 6 BeschV



A national visa issued for this purpose allows you to apply for an EU Blue Card.

The EU Blue Card is a residence permit for highly qualified professionals who plan to start a permanent job in Germany.

Family members * of an EU Blue Card applicant can only apply for a national visa for family reunification if they submit documents together on the same day.

* A “family member” means:

  • officially registered spouse
  • minor children under 18, unmarried




Who can apply for a visa in German Visa Application Center?


Note! Citizens residing in Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine need to apply for a Schengen visa at German Embassy in Kiev. Kindly ask you to mind the fact that citizens of Ukraine with a biometric foreign passport are entitled to visa-free entry into the territory of the Schengen countries for a period of stay of no longer than 90 days in half a year.

Citizens residing in Abkhazia (Georgia) and South Osetia (Georgia), need to apply for a Schengen visa at German Embassy in Tbilisi.



Foreign citizens, in addition to the main set of documents, must provide documents confirming legal residence in the Russian Federation (residence permit or registration in the Russian Federation), valid after returning from a trip for at least three months, or confirmation of the extension of this document.

Please note that a foreign citizen who does not reside permanently in the Russian Federation must provide proof of legal residence in the Russian Federation and a justification for applying for a visa in the Russian Federation, and not in the country of residence .


Civilian, registered and unregistered spouses of German citizens can apply  to the Visa Section of the German Embassy in Moscow with prior appointment as well as via the Visametric Visa Application Center.

In case of death of close relatives in Germany, you can apply directly to the visa department of the German Embassy in Moscow without waiting time and without prior appointment in accordance with the Embassy’s working hours from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

As a rule, such applications are considered by the German Embassy within one working day, and the visa is issued mainly for 10 days. In case of death of close relatives, you should:

  • Ask the relevant authority in Germany to send a death certificate in PDF format to

  • It is necessary to indicate in the subject of the letter “Window No. 7: death case - deceased: First Name, Last Name - Applicant: First Name, Last Name”.
  • Prepare a set of documents corresponding to the purpose of the trip “Private Visit”. Documents can be provided both in original and in copy. .

  • Submit the application without prior appointment directly to the visa department of the German Embassy in Moscow in window 7. Please note that the application will be considered within one working day.

Visa fee and VisaMetric service fee

  • The visa fee can be paid in cash (RUR) or with a credit/debit card and the final amount will be calculated according to the exchange rate provided by the Embassy/Consulate.
  • VisaMetric service fee is charged per visa application, in addition to the applicable visa fee. The VisaMetric service fee can be paid in cash (RUR) or with a credit/debit card. Please note that the final amount will be calculated according to the exchange rate provided by the Embassy/Consulate.
  • Applicants who choose the VIP service are required to pay the Visa fee and the VisaMetric service fee as well.
  • All fees are non-refundable.

The following groups of applicant are exempt from the payment of the visa fee, upon presentation of proof of their status:

  • Children under six years of age;
  • School pupils, students and accompanying teachers on study or educational trips as well as researchers (when travelling for research purpose only) will be exempt from the visa fee by all Schengen states regardless of their nationality;
  • Spouses/children/parents of EU/EEA/EFTA nationals that are eligible for a EU-family member visa are exempt from the visa fee.
