How long does it take to process an application?

For Schengen visas: Average 15 days.

How long do I need to wait after submitting my application?

VisaMetric delivers applications to Visa Section of the German Embassy for the review process of the submitted documents by the German Embassy.

Please note that during the processing time the Diplomatic Representation might request you to submit missing / additional documents via e-mail that was indicated in your Visa Application. We would recommend that you check it regularly.

According to Article 23, the first Chapter of Visa Codex, the German Embassy has rights to process visa for up to 15 calendar days.

The decision to approve or refuse a visa is entirely up to the Diplomatic Representation. For this reason, we kindly ask you to submit your application in advance.

What does the embassy check before issuing a Schengen visa?

The Embassy is required to check:
the purpose of the trip (for example, business or visiting)
the willingness to return
how the trip will be paid for (by the inviter or by the applicant)
the health insurance
other information (such as records in AZR, SIS, criminal activities or other/minor offenses)

What is AZR and what is SIS?

AZR is the abbreviation for “Ausländerzentralregister (Central Register of Foreign Nationals), which is managed by the Federal Office of Administration in Cologne. The AZR of every applicant is checked, and if the applicant has a record of criminal offences committed during previous visits to Germany, he/she will not be allowed to travel to Germany.
SIS means “Schengen Information System”. It is approximately the same as AZR, but includes all the countries who are member of the Schengen area. The Embassy will not issue visas to applicants who have committed crimes in other Schengen countries.
