1. Azerbaijan / FAQ / After Your Application

Can I visit other Schengen countries with a Schengen visa issued by Germany?

Yes.
The Schengen visa allows you to stay in all countries of the Schengen area. You can use your visa only within the validity period.

When can I receive the visa with the additional period of 10 days specified in the Visa Code?

According to the article 24 paragraph 1 of the Visa Code, the validity of a visa includes an additional period of 10 days, provided that an health insurance package was purchased for the corresponding duration. This only applies to single-entry visas: For example:
You plan the journey from 05.06.2017 until 15.06.2017 (11 days) with a single entry, but you purchase health insurance coverage for 26 days, valid between 05.-30.06.2017. In this case, the Embassy will issue you a visa with 26 days of validity, and single entry within this period. This enables you to plan your trip with more flexibility during this period.
Please note that the single-entry visas will be issued according to the validity of the health insurance package submitted at the time of the application.

My application was refused, what can I do?

If you think that the decision of the embassy was unfair, write an explanation letter and ask for your application to be reviewed.
When you collect your passport, you will also receive a note explaining briefly why your application was refused. You should keep the reason(s) for refusal in mind when requesting a review (appeal) of your application. The appeal process takes several weeks. The Embassy will receive your remonstrance and  review your application.
The appeal must be written in German, and the documents submitted with it have to be translated. If we agree with your explanation, you will obtain a visa. If we do not agree with your explanation, you will receive a detailed written explanation by mail. If you disagree with it , you can file an appeal to the Administrative Court in Berlin. After receiving the written explanation, you have one month to file an appeal to the Administrative Court in Berlin. Please wait until you receive the explanation letter.
Alternatively, you can submit a new application. Pay attention to the reason(s) for your previous refusal and try to explain your situation more clearly in written form.

How much time does the processs of reviewing an application take?

Incoming requests are processed according to their receiving date. Depending on the workload of the visa department, the process of reviewing your application can take from several weeks to up to several months. There is no deadline for processing.

My application was refused, what can my inviter in Germany do?

Both you and your receiving party can write to the Embassy and request for an explanation and/or re-examination of this decision. In this case, you should also take into account the reason(s) for refusal stated in the refusal letter you received when you collected your passport. Your host should submit also a power of attorney, which allows him/her to receive information about your visa on your behalf.
If the Embassy does not agree with the explanations of your inviter, he/she will receive a detailed written explanation by mail. An appeal can be presented to the Administrative Court in Berlin.

I understand the reason for the refusal but I still want to go to Germany. Can I apply again?

You can always submit a new visa application. Book an appointment and prepare all the documents included in the checklist. If you have asked for your application to be re-examined, this process will be terminated after you submit a new application.

My application was refused. There is only an Embassy stamp in my passport. What does it mean?

The stamp in your passport only confirms the fact that you applied for a visa at the Embassy and does not prevent you to apply again in the future.

Will the EUR 35 fee be refunded in case of refusal?

This fee is independent from the decision regarding an application and is charged to cover the costs of administrative operating expenses. The fee cannot be returned if the visa application is refused.

Is it possible to pay a higher fee so that my application can be processed faster?

No, it is not possible. VisaMetric cannot accept payments higher than those established by the regulations.
Additional payments can occur only in case of certain expense (for example, phone calls or fax to Germany).

How can I make sure I will obtain the visa?

There are no guarantees that you will be granted a visa. Even if you provided all the required documents to VisaMetric, there is a possibility that your application might be rejected. The decision is made by the German Embassy officers based on each specific case, and cannot be influenced or predicted in advance.

I received a phone call from an Embassy representative asking me to submit additional documents which were not listed in the checklist. Why should I submit these documents, and why was I not informed while submitting my application?

Sometimes the Embassy reserves the right to request additional documents when a decision cannot be made based on the documents you provided. The decision to request those documents does not depend on the employee who accepted your application, and could only be notified to you at a later stage.

I have found a mistake in my visa sticker. What should I do?

I obtained a one-year visa, the number of days is “90” and entry is “MULT” .What exactly does it mean?

This visa allows you to stay in the Schengen area for no more than 90 days within a six-month period, starting from the day you first enter a Schengen country.  Also, you can enter and leave the Schengen area multiple times during this period. Please note that you can not make up for the days you did not use within the last six months. Once you have used up the 90 days within the current half a year, you have to leave the country and you will not be able to return before the beginning of the next six-month period.
Should you have any doubts about how many days you have left, please come to see us during consultation hours.

I obtained a visa with validity (for example) from 01.05 to 01.06, with "number of days": 10 and "Entry": 1. What exactly does it mean?

With this visa, you can enter the Schengen area only once and stay in Germany for maximum 10 days. You can choose to spend any 10 days in Germany between 01.05 and 01.06.

I obtained a one-entry visa. Can I travel freely within the Schengen area, or should I stay only in one country?

Single entry only refers to your first entry into the Schengen area. If you travel from Germany to another Schengen country, and then come back, this will not be considered an extra entry.

I obtained a one-year visa and within the last six months I spent 50 days in Germany for work. I would like to travel to Spain for a holiday for 14 days. Am I allowed to do so?

Yes. A Schengen visa is valid in all the Schengen member countries. You should make sure to spend most of the time in the Schengen country that issued your visa. The rest of the days can be spent in any of the other Schengen member countries.

I obtained a Schengen visa valid for 10 days from the German Embassy and I would like to spend 10 days in Germany. Before, I would also like to spend 5 days in Italy. Am I allowed to do so?

In principle, yes. As long as Germany is still your main destination, you can enter the Schengen area from another country. The border authorities of the first Schengen country you enter might require you to provide proof that you will later travel to the country that issued your visa. If you cannot provide such evidence, you might not be allowed to cross the border.

I obtained a Schengen visa for 10 days and I am in Germany now, but need to stay longer. What should I do?

You should immediately contact the Authority for Foreigners competent for the area you are staying and apply for an extension of your visa. Staying in Germnay with an expired visa is in breach of the German Residence Rights and can result in a fine or travel ban.
You should contact the relevant Authority for Foreigners also if your visa was not issued by the German Embassy or if you are in another Schengen country.

I have a valid Schengen visa, but no pages left in my passport and I need to apply for a new one. What will happen to my visa?

The visa in your old passport is still valid even if the passport has already expired. You can travel with both passports without problems. Otherwise, you can come to the visa office during consultation hours and bring both passports, and we will transfer the visa to your new passport for free.

Why was my Schengen visa application refused?

The reason(s) for refusal are mentioned in the cover letter which you received with the refusal letter. Please note that an application might be refused even if you submitted all the required documents according to the instructions. Submitting a complete application does not guarantee that you will obtain the visa.
You can find additional explanations for the most common refusal reasons here.
