Schengen Visa


 

Short-term visas are also called “Schengen Visa” as they allow a stay up to 90 days in a 180-day timeframe in the Schengen area. A short-term visa is needed for any stay shorter than 90 days. For more information visit the website of the German Embassy in Dublin.

This category of visa is for individuals who wish to stay in Germany for a maximum period of 3 months for business purposes (such as attending business meetings, signing contracts, etc.), but it does not permit the conduct of professional activities.

This category of visa is for people wishing to stay in Germany for a maximum period of 3 months. It can be applied for if the person does not have a guarantor in Germany and either books a tour through a travel agency or makes arrangements for tickets and hotel accommodations.

Individuals travelling to Germany for Family/Friend Visit purposes can apply.

 

Family members of EEA/EU and Swiss nationals are able to apply for a Schengen visa under this category, as that may submit fewer documents and are exempt from paying the visa fee, while traveling with their EEA/EU or Swiss national family member.

1. A VISA is needed IF you hold a “Stamp 4” card:

a) IF you are travelling WITH your spouse/child: Family members of EEA/EU and Swiss nationals, who will be travelling with their EEA/EU or Swiss national family member,may submit fewer documents and are exempt from paying the visa fee.

b) IF you are travelling WITHOUT your spouse/child, who is an EEA/EU and Swiss national: You will need to provide all of the regular documentation listed in the category for Tourism/Visitor/Business visa depending on the type of your trip.

2. NO VISA is needed IF your IRP card has the remark “Stamp 4EU FAM” both if you are travelling WITH or WITHOUT your spouse/child . While travelling, please have the marriage/birth certificate at hand to prove your family relationship.

Please note: Parents who travel with a child who is an Irish/EU/EEA citizen must present proof that they provide for the child (independent of state support) and have sufficient means for the journey (proof of employment, bank statements). Parents who do not provide financial support for their child cannot avail of the facilitations and have to present all documents listed in the relevant visa category.

“EU national” for this type of visa includes only German citizens who have their habitual residence in Ireland

National Visa


 

If you intend to stay longer than 90 days, you have to apply for a long-term visa (also called “National visa”). Please note some National visa categories are processed by the German Embassy directly. For more information visit the website of the German Embassy in Dublin.

If you plan to stay in Germany for more than 90 days, you need to apply for a national visa.

The validity of your degree will be assessed. You can check if your degree is listed on 'Anabin' as 'equivalent' or 'comparable.' If your degree is not listed on Anabin or does not receive the aforementioned assessment, you may be required to have it assessed by the ZAB (Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen & Central Office for Foreign Education). An assessment may also be necessary if Anabin lists your degree as equivalent with conditions..

If you wish to apply for a family reunion visa when your spouse applies for an employment visa for professionals with an academic degree (e.g. Blue Card Visa) or employment visa for professionals with a vocational Training, you need to apply for a national visa.

If you wish to study in Germany and already have an unconditional acceptance letter (e.g., for a Bachelor's, Master's, PhD, or exchange studies), you need to apply for a national visa. Please note: If you have a conditional acceptance letter from a university or are still searching for a study program, you will need to apply directly with the German Embassy and not through Visametric.

After printing out the completed application form, we ask you to review all the information carefully. Please do not forget to sign each page of the form personally. Please submit the application form along with the required documents when you apply.

The VisaMetric branch in Ireland offers an application form filling service. Applicants wishing to use this service can have their application form completed at the VisaMetric office. An employee of the Visa Application Centre will enter the data provided by the applicant into the electronic form and enclose a printout of this form with the application documents. The entry is based on the information provided by the applicant.

The form filling service is provided solely at the applicant’s request and is entirely optional. It does not include any advice on the visa application. Choosing to use the form filling service has no influence on the decision regarding the application. The decision on your visa application is made by the German Embassy, not by VisaMetric.

Visa Fee and VisaMetric Service Fee

  • Visa Fee: Visa fees are collected on behalf of the embassy and forwarded to them to process your visa application.
  • Service Fee: The service fee is charged by VisaMetric for accepting your visa application. The service fee charged by VisaMetric for each national visa application is 40 Euro and for each Schengen application is 30 Euro.
  • Important Note: Payment of the visa fee and the service fee does not guarantee the issuance of a visa. The visa fee and service fee will not be refunded or transferred once the visa application has been forwarded to the embassy, or if the visa is refused or the procedure is dropped by the applicant.

To book an appointment, an advance payment of the service fee must be made. The service fee is charged by VisaMetric for accepting your visa application. The service fee charged by VisaMetric can be found under ‘’Fees’’.

Please note that you can cancel your appointment up to 72 hours before the scheduled time. However, please note that the service fee you paid as part of your prepayment is non-refundable under any circumstances if you cancel less than 72 hours in advance. Please have your credit card details ready while you book your appointment.
