Schengen Visa (For staying in the country for less than 90 days)

If you want to stay in Germany less than 90 days, you need a Schengen visa.

The regular processing time for a Schengen visa is 15 calendar days according to the Schengen Visa Code. The visa office of the German Embassy Dublin usually decides on complete applications within 15 calendar days of receipt at the visa office (not after submission to Visametric). However, in some cases the processing time might be longer, for example if your documents need to be checked more thoroughly or you are asked to submit additional documents. In addition, transport from Visametric to the Embassy and back may take a few days. Around public holidays (e.g. Easter, Christmas) there may be longer processing times. Please plan accordingly. We recommend that you apply at least three weeks before your intended travel dates. Schengen visa applications can be submitted up to six months before the start of the planned trip.

Further information can be found on the website of the German Embassy Dublin.

Change in appointment scheduling for Schengen Visas

  • Applicants will register on the appointment waiting list of Visametric from 20.05.2026 and will receive confirmation of this by email.
  • Individuals who have received an appointment in the system before 20.05.2026 do not need to register again.

Important Note:

We would like to remind you that only those registering for the waiting list for the first time should register via the link above. If you already have a registration, please do not register again.

We would like to point out that an application for a Schengen visa will generally not be accepted and not forwarded for processing if the purpose of travel does not match the submitted documents and the booked category. In this case, a new appointment must be booked in the correct category. We ask for your understanding that the service fee cannot be refunded if you appear for an appointment in the wrong category. The service fee must be paid again when booking a new appointment in the correct category.

Parents who do not provide financial support for their child cannot avail of the facilitations and have to present all documents listed in the relevant visa category.

“EU national” for this type of visa includes only German citizens who have their habitual residence in Ireland.

For applicants under 18:
