What is a statement of commitment?
The statement of commitment is issued in favor of a third-country citizen to guarantee for his/her living expenses, and serves as proof in administrative proceedings that the economic conditions for obtaining a residence permit are fulfilling according § 5 paragraph 1 of the Residence Act.
By writing statement of commitment, the inviter accept his/her duty to bear all the costs related to the applicant's living and travelling expenses. The beneficiary of the written statement of commitment may be a private or legal person.
Can I apply for a visa with a long validity (many years) with a statement of commitment?
Yes. Your host should report the intended duration of your stay (from one to four years) to the Authority of Foreigners and include a specific remark about this in the statement of commitment.
In this regard, the financial guarantee will cover the entire period of your stay in Germany.
If the Authority of Foreigners accepts the statement of commitment only for a short period of time, then you (the applicant) should provide additional proof of solvency, such as bank account statements of the last three to six months, which can confirm your monthly income source as well as your financial capacity to support yourself while abroad.
What is a proof of family relation?
The Embassy, before issuing a visa checks the verification of statement. In case of necessity, Embassy can check the relationship between the inviter and the applicant(s).
Birth and/or marriage certificates can be provided as proof of kinship, for example a relationship between two siblings can be proved by providing birth certificates of both of them, as this would show that these two people have at least one common parent.
What is an informal invitation letter and what does it look like?
When submitting an application for a visa to visit your family or friends, you should provide an informal invitation letter written by the person who is inviting you.
An informal invitation letter has to be written in German and must include information about the purpose and duration of your trip. It can be written by hand or using a computer and must be signed by the inviter (a family member or a friend). It is not required to get the signature authenticated.
How long does take to process an application?
The documents with the filled application form will be provided to the visa office of the Consulate. A decision regarding the application will be made within 15 calendar days.
Please note, that for applicants who are not citizens of Tajikistan, the visa procedure may take from 15 calendar days.
The decision to approve or refuse a visa is entirely up to the diplomatic representation.
For this reason, we kindly ask you to submit your application in advance.
Note: in case the processing time exceeds 15 calendar days, need to make written requests to the foreign representation. Please note, that the foreign representations might request you to submit missing/additional documents. You will be notified by e-mail, and therefore, we kindly recommend you check your email regularly.
How much does a visa cost?
Schengen visa fee is EUR 80. The visa fee is free for children under 6 years and for applicants aged from 6 to 12 is EUR 40.
What does the embassy check before issuing a Schengen visa?
The Embassy is responsible to check:
the purpose of the trip (for example, business or visit)
the willingness to return, Financial capacity for travelling, (by the inviter or by the applicant)
the health insurance
other information (such as records in AZR, SIS, criminal activities or other/minor offenses)
What is a one-year or multiple-year visa?
In this case, a Schengen visa which has a validity of one or more years (maximum five), and allows to stay for up to 90 days within a six-month period, with the possibility of entering the country multipletimes. It is based on the Regulation (EG) No. 810/2009 of the European Parliament and Council of Europe d/d July 13, 2009, which established a Community Code on Visas. (abbreviated: “The Visa Code”)
In the article 24, paragraph 2 of the Visa Code, is stated that the multi-entry visas will be issued for a longer period of validity, if the applicant proves or demonstrates his/her need to travel to the Schengen area often, for example for personal or business reasons.
As a rule, a one-year or multiple-year visa can only be issued if the applicant is able to demonstrated his integrity and reliability, especially regarding previous visas (Article 24, paragraph 2 of the Visa Code).
In visa notes, the visa sticker will show that the "Duration of stay" cannot exceed "90" days. This is not the entire validity, but the number of days the applicant can remain in the Schengen area within six months.
Other documents
Me/my guest was required to submit documents that are not included to the list of required documents, why?
The Embassy always makes decisions according to each specific situation. The cheklist of documents can only include general information covering most, but not all, the possible cases. Consequently, a document not included in the list might be required. This doesn't mean that a visa cannot be issued.
When should I apply for a visa to the VisaMetric office in Tajikistan?
You can apply to the VisaMetric office in Tajikistan if you are in Tajikistan permanently and legally, and if your main destination of your trip is Germany.
I would like to visit different Schengen countries during my trip. Can I apply at the German Embassy?
You can apply at the German Embassy if your stay in Germany will be longer than in other Schengen countries. If you will/plan to stay in all countries for the same equal amount of time, then please apply for a visa at the embassy of the country you will enter first.
Additional documents for minors?
Minors must also submit all documents specified in the instructions. In addition, need always provide a copy of your birth certificate. Please note, that a parent who is not present in person must provide consent/power of attoney, notarized, to travel to all Schengen countries. The consent must be in the original with a translation into German or English. If the first trip is planned to another Schengen state, it is recommended to translate additionally into the language of this country or, if this is not possible, into English.
Can I pay more to get my application processed faster?
No, there is no such possibility. Visametric cannot and has no right to accept payment higher than what is required by law.
Additional costs can only be as costs (for example, for telephone calls or faxes to Germany).
I still have a valid Schengen visa. But there are no more empty pages in my passport, and therefore, I have to apply for a new passport. What will happen with my visa?
The visa in your old passport is still valid even if the passport is no longer valid. Thus, you can travel with two passports without any problems. Otherwise, you can apply with your old and new passport to the Visa Service Information Department - we will transfer the visa to your new passport free of charge.
Sighting of passports:
which are undamaged, valid and (for passport holders) hand-signed.
In addition, according to the Visa Code, Schengen visas can only be issued in those passports that
- valid for at least 3 months after the end of the planned trip,
- have been issued within the last 10 years,
- have at least two completely blank pages (for visa processing)* *If a visa is being applied for minor children registered in the passport, then the passport must contain one more completely blank page (for obtaining a visa) for one child.
In what language should I fill out the form?
The form can be completed/filled in German or English.
Can I also fill out the application form manually?
If, due to technical reasons you are unable to complete the online form, you can complete the application manually. But please note that in this case you will need a long waiting time when applying.

Visa applications are accepted by the external service provider VisaMetric. You can submit your application on Monday till Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. You can apply with an appointment or without an appointment.
